Today’s home designs are all about casual living and community. Gone are the formal lounges, dining rooms and living rooms of yesteryear. Instead, the kitchen has become the new gathering place in the home, making it the heart of the home. Most home designers are generously increasing the space of the kitchens and the surrounding gathering spaces. Since dining rooms are considered nonessential, kitchens are expanding and absorbing these areas as the latest trends of 2018.

Outdoor living areas are becoming increasingly more popular as a hang-out place for the family. Wine coolers, ice makers, outside bars, fireplaces, fire pits, couches and televisions are all part of outdoor living. As the action moves to the back garden – the line between in-door and outdoor living is becoming blurred as stacking glass sliding doors  turn a barrier into an open space – in a matter of minutes. This makes the most of outdoor living, opening up to areas like spacious patios, stunning views and designer gardens, making it all accessible. Technology in the contemporary kitchen is becoming common place.
